The GI Bills® are administered by the US Department of Veterans Affairs. The Armed Forces offer soldiers, sailors, marines, guardsmen, and airmen several tuition assistance programs for college courses taken during off-duty hours. The Post-9/11 GI Bill® has a few specific components unavailable in other GI Bill® programs, such as the Yellow Ribbon Program and Transfer of Entitlement Option.
After you apply you will receive a Certificate of Eligibility in the mail. Submit that to the UA Veterans Service Office:
Email: veterans@email.arizona.edu
Fax: 520-621-3665
In person: Modern Languages Bldg. Room 347
Once your enrollment is complete, log into UAccess Student and complete the Veteran Certification process located on the Other Financial drop-down menu under Finances.
The Tuition Assistance “TA” program provides financial assistance for voluntary off-duty education programs in support of a Soldier’s professional and personal development goals. Please note the UA needs to be approved as a school first by your local education center on base before you can apply for tuition assistance.
We strongly encourage you to apply for Financial Aid as you may qualify for Pell or other assistance.
To apply, complete the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) form online as early as January 1, and no later than March 1. Because funding is limited, we recommend you fill out your FAFSA form by February 14 to see what you automatically qualify for. You will need a copy of your taxes from the prior year.
Purple Heart Recipients
If you are a Purple Heart recipient AND were an Arizona resident at the time or deployed from an Arizona base and received the Purple Heart from that deployment, you are eligible to get a college tuition waiver.
After you download the application, file the form and required documents with the Arizona Department of Veterans Services in person or submit by email to Martha Alderman at malderman@azdvs.gov.
