Incepted in 1885, the University of Arizona has played an integral role in the rich history of the city upon it was founded, Tucson. Today, Tucson is a city with more than 500,000 residents and more than a million if you count the surrounding communities and suburbs. Even being the 33rd most populous city in the United States, Tucson is in every sense of the word a college town.

More importantly, it’s a college town which still retains a big city feel. This balance between city and college, is what helps make the University of Arizona incredibly unique and special. The spirit and camaraderie Tucsonans feel for their university is unmatched.

In many other cities across the United States, the local university is simply another part of the city, and many times the actual relevance of the university is dwarfed by the city itself. In other cities, the university is the only thing of relevance within the area, and many times you might find yourself limited in what you can do.

So what does attending a true college town in a large city mean for you? It means:

  • that you’re only a five minute light rail ride from a thriving and growing downtown.
  • when you attend football games you’re cheering with 55,000 other passionate Wildcat fans from all walks of life.
  • there are ample opportunities to explore Tucson’s amazing and rich food scene.
  • when you’re wearing a UA hat at O’Hare airport in Chicago, a UA alum will go up to you and say, “Bear Down!” (true story).
  • when you graduate from the UA you will truly be a wildcat for a life, and will always be welcome back to Tucson with open arms.

If you’re looking for that true college atmosphere and environment, but not ready to commit to a small town, there’s no better place to look than the University of Arizona where you will get best of both worlds!

As always,

Bear Down!
