Happy January future Wildcats! I hope you’re now getting into the swing of the spring portion of your school year. Whether you’re graduating in the coming months or have a few more years, this is an incredibly important time to be thinking about your future. No, not just what you’re going to have for lunch tomorrow at school, but your college future!
There is always excitement about the first day of school. For college freshmen in the fall semester, there is the uncertainty of: “Where are my classes?”, “Will I make friends?”, and “What will my professors be like?”. By spring semester, you know the campus, you have made friends, and have a sense of what the next three and a half years will look like. One of the coolest parts about college is having two opportunities to have a first day of school! The start of spring semester is always thrilling on the UA campus and here are the reasons why:
After finishing my two years at Mohave Community College, it was time to find a university that possessed academic quality, student engagement opportunities, and career preparation for the “real world”. It was after attending a Transfer Round-up Tour that I realized the UA had embodied all three of the qualities I was looking for in a 4-year university, which made my decision quite simple. I transferred to the UA as a Theatre Arts major because I was looking for an environment that would allow me to grow academically and professionally as an entertainment professional.
I have heard the phase, “I have to find an internship ASAP” so many times in college. Freshman year, I had friends panicking about where they were going to find one in the coming year. There is a lot of pressure to find one. They are incredibly helpful in providing a skill set outside the classroom. They can introduce students to a network that can help them in the future. I have plenty of friends who, after the completion of their internship, have been offered a position with the corresponding company for after their graduation.
Labor Day and fall breaks passed us by, Halloween we hardly knew you, Thanksgiving is not for another 350+ days. Hard to believe winter break is almost upon us! No matter where you are, you’re probably about to take another step towards graduation and finish another part of your high-school career.
With this fall semester (or quarter, trimester, etc) winding down, it’s important to think of what you’re going to accomplish during your winter break!
Success. Support. Community. These are terms that come to mind when I think about how the Honors College has helped me throughout my years at the University of Arizona. The UA Honors College is an institution that works to build on my prior success as a high school student and uses a model of support and community to do this.
The year was 1914 and the University of Arizona football had just beaten Pomona 7-6 in the very first Homecoming game. 103 years later, the tradition continues.
This past month we celebrated our 2017 Homecoming in style!
More than 50,000 alumni descended upon Tucson this weekend as the University of Arizona hosted it’s annual Homecoming festivities. The week kicked off with the lighting of ‘A’ Mountain and concluded with the football game against Washington State.
Being undecided, what does it mean? Well coming from someone who came to the University undecided, it means that you have not yet chosen a major and are ready to explore over 270 (majors and minors) potential topics. In order to do that, you can begin your journey at the Colleges of Letters, Arts, and Science.
You’re now a senior in high school. Less than one year away from graduating and you might be feeling a wide range of emotions--Everything from excitement to being terrified to head off to college. Don’t worry, I went through the same process my senior year, as have millions of other students! While this is certainly an amazing time in your life and you may be looking forward to starting your college career and getting out of high school, you still must prioritize your school work senior year.
