Am I required to attend New Student Orientation?
Yes, all new students are required to participate in New Student Orientation. The program is designed to teach you about the University so that you feel comfortable and confident when you start classes.
Are parents required to attend New Student Orientation?
No, but parent participation is encouraged. The parent program is separate from the student program for many activities and focuses on information which is most critical to parents.
Is there an additional fee to add a guest on the day of the program?
Yes, there will be an additional $10.00 processing fee (added to the standard $75.00 guest fee) on the day of the session if you do not sign up your parents prior to the program date.
Do I need to submit proof of vaccination for measles/rubella immunizations?
Yes, you must submit your proof of vaccination separately. For more information on immunizations please visit the Campus Health Immunization Requirement page or call (520) 621-2384.
What are my chances of getting the courses I need if I attend a later session?
New freshmen are guaranteed to leave our program with a full schedule (12 units). It is important for the student to be prepared with several course choices and to keep an open mind. Major coursework availability with vary depending on the particular college.
Is there an advantage to signing up for an early New Student Orientation session?
The benefit of signing up for an early New Student Orientation session is to complete the process early. Attending an earlier session, rather than a later session, does not guarantee better course selection or academic advising. Seats in General Education and Foundation coursework are distributed throughout the duration of the summer. For example, a certain number of seats in each section will be opened at each New Student Orientation session to allow students in the last session the same opportunity to gain access to that section as students in the first session. Course availability in areas other than General Education and Foundation coursework will vary by college. Frequently new sections of these courses will be opened later in the summer to meet student demand.
Do I have to stay on campus for Orientation?
It is not a requirement to stay on campus during New Student Orientation. We do have residence halls available for both students and parents for a fee. You can register to stay in a residence hall through the Orientation Reservation System when you register for your orientation session.
Can I make changes to my Orientation reservation?
You are able to make changes to your orientation reservation providing there is availability. In order to make a change once you have completed registering for orientation you will need to print a Reservation Change Form and mail it or fax it to our office. Please be aware that there is a $30.00 processing fee applied when any change is made.
What is included in the $75.00 Parent Program fee?
The $75.00 fee for the Parent Program covers the cost of providing the program. It includes all the materials your parents will receive, all of their meals and the cost of rooms and facilities used for Parents Sessions and meetings.
What time will I be finished on the second day of Orientation?
Orientation will be over in the late afternoon of the second day. If traveling from out of town we do not recommend making any travel reservations before 5:00 pm in order to guarantee attendance for the whole program.
Can students and parents room together on campus during Orientation?
Students and parents choosing to stay on campus during orientation must stay in separate halls.
Will I be able to tour my assigned residence hall that I will live in this fall?
The residence halls will be unavailable during the summer. They are being used for several groups visiting campus and being prepared for a new school year.
I am staying on campus. Do I need to bring linens?
Linens will be provided in all the residence hall rooms. If you tend to be chilly at night you may want to bring an additional blanket. Toiletries, phones and alarm clocks are not provided.
