Living in my residence hall was such a great experience! As a sophomore I decided to move back in and live there a second time. Sophomore year I loved it even more!
After the initial “culture shock” of moving away from my parents and home state of California my residence hall became my home away from home. I baked pumpkin bread in the Yavapai kitchen, took naps on the couches in the living area and generally felt safe and comfortable there.
Everyone’s college experience is different, but one thing we all have in common is that we all start off as a nervous freshman. While each individual experiences freshman year differently, there are a few commonalities that are true for everyone. So what can you expect from your freshman year? Well, for one, you are guaranteed to make new friends. Living in the dorms forces you to socialize, whether you want to or not.
As a senior looking back at freshman year, I can honestly say it was a long and stressful time; a year I wish I would’ve taken full advantage of.
Freshman year is the first time you’ll be living away from the comfort of your home. You will have to make life changing decisions and for the first time and you’ll discover who you really are. It’s a year when you can start all over again, and leave all those embarrassing high school memories or nicknames behind.
