The Wildcat Promise and Me
As a senior in high school I had an interesting habit of pretending that change was not happening. Sure, I was excited to go to college, but in reality, I was still pretty freaked out about being “that old.” This meant that although I was filling out college applications, I was still pretty reluctant to spend large amounts of time thinking about my future. In some ways, this was good, as it allowed me to spend lots of time enjoying my last year of high school, but in other ways, it was bad because it kept me from learning pretty important information about the universities I was applying too.
There was one thing in particular that I did not learn about until after I submitted my application and received my decision. When I received my decision at such an early date, I was a little confused, but then I found out how it happened. For me, it meant that I got to spend some time “googling” why I received my decision at such an early date. After some quality time spent on my computer, I realized that I had been a part of the Wildcat Promise. For you, this means that if you turn in your application by October 15th you will receive your decision by November 5th and will be a part of the Wildcat Promise.
The Wildcat Promise helped me to speed up making my decision on which university to go to. You might not have noticed, but I ended up choosing the UA as my college of choice. The Wildcat Promise helped me to commit to the UA earlier than I would have otherwise, and it also helped me to get a jumpstart on making my housing decisions for my freshman year as well as going to an early orientation session. And above all, being a part of the Wildcat Promise really just helped me stress less. You might be able to tell, but I was pretty worried about the whole “college thing,” and being able to make a decision sooner rather than later on what college to go to really helped me have a more relaxing senior year of high school. The nice thing about the Wildcat Promise is that it is not an early decision program, and by participating in it you are not bound to the UA, but you simply have the option to begin your Wildcat life a little sooner.
I was, unknowingly at first, part of the Wildcat Promise, and now I encourage you to consider knowingly becoming a part of it. Remember, to get that application in by October 15th if you would like to know your decision by November 5th!
